YouTube Downloader is a popular, free program that enables you to download and convert online videos (legal content, to which you have the rights) for later viewing on your desktop or mobile device. It can convert files to MOV, MP4, 3GP, WMV, AVI, or MP3.

The name "YouTube Downloader" is terribly misleading because the program, in fact, downloads a whole lot more than just YouTube videos. On the developer's site, you can find an extensive list of additional supported sites including Facebook and Vimeo. Download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011

The new AVG Free has sped up its installation process, although it's not as zippy as the minute-long installations that some of AVG's paid competitors offer. We found that the program can go from completed download to ready to use in about 5 minutes. Gains might have been made elsewhere, but a big contributing factor to that is that AVG has cut down the number of install screens users see, from 13 in the previous version to 5 in the 2011 version.
AVG's toolbar is still an opt-out feature. It also will commandeer your default search engine for Yahoo, so if you don't want it to do that, you'll want to uncheck the box that changes your search engine, too. Also unchanged is registration, which is a free process and can be completed from within the AVG interface.

Free Antivirus Software

Why pay for antivirus protection when it is available for free? Free virus protection software did not used to measure up to its commercial counterparts. This is no longer true. Many very reputable software manufacturers use free trials or free products as marketing strategies to attract new customers to other security products.

Even with trial software that starts out as a free product, subscription renewals are eventually required to keep the software updates current. Do not make the serious mistake of continuing to use an antivirus product that no longer provides signature updates because you did not pay the annual subscription fee.

Another strategy besides free trial software is to switch to a completely free virus protection product. Many of these free products provide stiff competition to their commercial counterparts and come highly recommended. Here are some links to free antivirus software vendors:

Bit Defender

Avast!

AVG by Grisoft Software

Avira AntiVirus

Kaspersky Lab
